A short history of Adidas Originals
Brothers Adi and Rudolf Dassler started a small company called “The Dassler Brothers Sports Shoe Company’’ in the German town of Herzogenaurach in the 1920s. The brothers started the company in their mother’s basement washhouse – Adi as the technically gifted designer and Rudi as the talented salesman. Together, they convinced the American Olympic sprinter Jesse Owens to wear a pair of their sprinter shoes, and after Jesse Owens won four gold medals at the Olympic Games in Berlin in 1936, sales of the brothers shoes exploded.
The brothers decided to go their own way in 1947. Adi founded the company Adidas and Rudi founded the company Ruda – which later became Puma. For many years the two brothers competed against one another in a battle to get football stars and sports stars to use their particular brand. Adidas and Puma buried the hatchet in 2009 by holding a friendly football match.
Adidas is also known for being ‘the brand with the three stripes’’, which is a characteristic of most sneaker models made by Adidas. Their logo, which has changed shape several times, is now split between Sport, Fashion and Heritage, which is reflected in the three stripes design.
The Adidas items that we sell in qUINT are primarily sneakers and clothing, based on classic models and styles from the many decades of Adidas’ existence
Other sneakers are inspired by previous silhouettes from Adidas, such as:
- Adidas YUNG-96, the 90s-inspired “Dad shoe”, with its chunky look, which has already proved itself popular.
- Adidas NMD, with its Adidas Boost sole, has taken the world by storm, hugely popular among runners and in the fashion world. It is well-designed and the material carefully selected to provide the best possible comfort.
- Adidas Swift Run, is especially known all for its lifestyle and sporty look. It is perfect for everyday use, using soft EVA technology, which makes it elastic and comfortable to move in.
Many major designers have helped to make Adidas the world’s best-selling sneaker brand - Stars like Kanye West with his Yeezy, Stella McCartney with her inspiring collection, and Jeremy Scott, with his innovation and pop culture, has designed different Adidas silhouettes that are recognisably made by him.
